Marine Fuel Oil Engine, also known as Marine diesel engine, usually refers to an internal combustion engine that uses marine fuel oil as fuels. The most widely used, with high thermal efficiency, and an absolute numerical advantage in modern transport ships.
Marine fuel oil propulsion engines can be used from yachts to commercial transport and ocean going ships, and typical applications could include but are not limited to vessels such as cargo vessels, offshore engineering vessel, container ships, cruise ships, ferries, tugboats, dredgers, passenger ships, pleasure boats, fishing boats, patrol boats, fire boats. Combustible diesel or heavy fuel oil. For detailed fuel oil information, please visit: Marine Fuel Oil.
Marine auxiliary engines are mainly used as generator set engines; however, they can be used for electrically driven pumps, winches, conveyors, thrusters, etc. Engines can be radiator cooled or heat exchanger/keel cooled.
Classification of Marine fuel oil engines:
1. Marine fuel oil engines can be divided into two categories according to their purposes:
1) Marine propulsion engines, also known as marine main engines, serve as the primary power source for ships, directly driving propellers to provide propulsion power for navigation. According to the different types of fuel oil, it can be divided into two categories:
■ Diesel propulsion engines, it mainly refer to high-speed and medium speed diesel engines.
■ Heavy fuel oil propulsion engines, including medium and low-speed heavy oil engines.
2) Marine auxiliary engines, it do not directly participate in the propulsion of ship navigation, but are used to drive various supporting equipment on board and ensure the daily operation of the entire ship. Most of them are medium to high speed, four stroke engines. According to different functions, it can be divided into two categories:
■ Auxiliary engines for power generation, namely marine generator sets, including marine main generators and marine emergency generator sets. To provide stable power for the entire ship, it is required to maintain a constant speed when the load changes.
■ Equipment driven auxiliary engines, it drives auxiliary equipment such as air compressors, fire pumps, water pumps, hydraulic oil pumps, etc., to support the operation of various auxiliary systems on ships.
2 Marine fuel oil engines can be divided into three categories based on their speed:
■ High speed engines, namely marine high-speed diesel engines. The engine speed n > 1000 r/min. It is a small bore, four stroke engine. The single machine capacity is usually below 3 MW.
■ Medium speed engines, including medium speed diesel engines and medium speed heavy fuel oil engines. The engine speed is between 300 < n ≤ 1000 r/min. It is a medium-sized cylinder bore, four stroke engine. Single machine capacity of over 20 MW.
■ Low speed engines, mainly refer to low-speed heavy fuel oil engines. The engine speed n ≤ 300 r/min. It is a large bore, two-stroke engine. The single unit capacity reaches 30 - 80 MW.
