Marine Generator Set refers to a power generation device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy through a prime mover, providing stable power supply for ships. It is the core power supply equipment of the ship's power system. The application scope ranges from yachts to commercial transportation and ocean going vessels.
Marine generator sets must meet the special working conditions of the ocean, and additionally meet the ship's unique requirements for tilting, swaying, salt spray corrosion, and vibration. Usually, it is necessary to comply with the supplementary specifications or classification society standards for marine environments in the ISO 8528 series.
The marine generator sets operated by our company mainly include: Marine engine generator sets and Marine gas turbine generator sets. Among them, Marine engine generator sets are the most widely used, with high thermal efficiency and an absolute numerical advantage in modern transport ships.
Classification of Marine generator sets, it can be divided into the following two categories based on the type of driving power:
1. Marine Engine Generator Sets:
1) According to the different fuels used, they can be further divided into three categories:
■ Marine liquid fuel generator sets, including Marine fuel oil generator sets, crude oil generator sets, and liquid biofuel generator sets, etc.
■ Marine gas generator sets, mainly refer to liquefied natural gas (LNG) generator sets, etc;
■ Marine dual fuel generator sets, including LNG dual fuel generator sets, Methanol dual fuel generator sets, and Ammonia dual fuel generator sets.
2) According to the different speeds of engines, they can be divided into three categories:
■ High speed engine generator sets, refer to the generator sets with engine speed n > 1000 r/min. It is a small bore, four stroke generator set. The single machine capacity is usually below 3 MW. It has small size, light weight, flexible and fast start stop, and low investment cost.
■ Medium speed engine generator sets, refer to the generator sets with engine speed between 300 < n ≤ 1000 r/min. It is a medium-sized cylinder bore, four stroke generator set. Single machine capacity of over 20 MW.
■ Low speed engine generator sets, refer to the generator sets with engine speed n ≤ 300 r/min. It is a large bore, two-stroke generator set. The single set capacity reaches 30-80 MW.
2. Marine Turbine Generator Sets, its can be divided into three categories based on the different medium or energy form used:
■ Marine gas turbine generator sets, mainly used for ship electric propulsion systems, ship main generators, and offshore platform power generation.
■ Marine steam turbine generator sets, used for large ship electric propulsion systems and main generators.
■ Marine nuclear power generator sets, used for large icebreakers, transport ships, and naval vessels.
